5 Foods for Regulating the Irregular Periods

There is always a little uncertainty around the arrival of your periods. You simply don’t know when your period will show up.  One month it may show up early, and the next month it may keep you waiting for days.

For most women, it is not uncommon to have a menstrual cycle that varies in length. It can vary from 21 days (short cycle) to 35 days (long cycle) on an average. Irregular periods, however, make it more challenging for some women to get pregnant because one never knows when one is ovulating.

If irregular periods are making it difficult for you to conceive, it’s better to seek your doctor’s help. Besides this, you can work on lowering your stress levels, which will in turn help you bring back your menstrual cycle right on track.

Improving your diet can also work wonders for irregular periods and fertility. Too much stress and unhealthy eating habits are known to derail your cycles and affect your fertility.  When it comes to healthy diet, there are a few natural foods that could help in regulating your periods.

Aloe Vera

Nature’s own cure for an irregular menstruation cycle, Aloe Vera is rich in folic acid, amino acids, salicyclic acid, and Vitamin A, C, E & B12. It regulates the hormones responsible for menstruation and helps in getting regular period flow every month on time.

Cinnamon

Insulin levels are known to have an effect on other hormones and the menstrual cycle. And Cinnamon helps regulate these insulin levels in the body as it may improve the body’s ability to process glucose and insulin.

It also helps in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which also impacts your menstrual cycle. The spice is also known to antispasmodic that relaxes pelvic muscles, hence cutting down the pain levels during menstruation.

Jaggery

Known for its warming effects on the body, it promotes proper regulation of hormones, which helps in bringing regularity in your periods. Jaggery is also rich in iron and minerals.

Carom Seeds (Ajwain)

Carom seeds water is known to regulate your menstrual cycle. It aids in digestion too. Carom seeds when boiled with water and consumed also help in reducing pain during periods.

Pineapple

Here are more reasons to love the pineapple. It contains an enzyme called “bromelain”, which may reduce inflammation in the body and help in irregular menstruation. It also helps pre-pone your periods.  A word of caution – if consumed in excess, it can increase the period flow.

Papaya

Raw papaya is known to stimulate the estrogen production in the body, which helps break down the uterine lining. This is quite helpful in regulating irregular periods. In case of delayed periods, papaya can be an effective remedy.

However, eat papaya (raw) in preparation as too much of it can increase period flow.
