Superfoods for Supermoms
Moms are superhumans. Period.
You’re always juggling multiple responsibilities , egos, emotions, work, stress, kids, parents..
And the list just goes on and on.
All this with aplomb.
But supermoms also need super health hacks and lots of me time to refresh, relax and rejuvenate.
Lets take a look at some of the health hacks for all your super moms out there.
It doesn't matter if you're a working mom or someone working on your family. The pressure is real.
- Keep your iron and calcium levels up
Whether you're working mom or a homemaker, your iron and calcium levels are always depleted because you just don't have time to take care of yourself.
You are always running around, always worrying about others.
Remember, you are glue that holds the house together.
It is natural to look after others but looking after yourself should and needs to be your first priority.
When your iron, calcium and vitamin D levels drop, your energy to do things, your ability and immunity to fight testing times reduces significantly making you feel depressed and fatigued and it permeates into all your relationships and work life.
Include amaranth puffs and apples in your daily life. They are easy to stock up on, pocket friendly, and easy on the go snacks.
Amaranth will boost your calcium and protein levels to keep you full of energy.
It contains about four times as much calcium as wheat and twice as much iron and magnesium.
Flavonoids (such as rutin and some phenolic acids as gallic acid, p-Hydroxybenzoic acid and vanillic acid) with anti-oxidant effects also occur in amaranth seeds and sprouts.
Amaranth is gluten-free and easy to digest.
Apples are filled with vitamin A , K, Potassium, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that promote bone density and strength.
Apples are also good for boosting the metabolism, for reducing chances of heart diseases in women and lower the risk of type 2 diabetes.
- Keep an on-the-go dry fruit and seed mix for a super quick snack
Nuts, seeds and dryfruit mix is a great way to manage hunger pangs, rejuvenating flagging vitamin and mineral levels due to extensive intense mental and physical activity performed by mom all day.
- Munch on makhanas
Munch on makhanas (roasted in ghee and lightly salted at home) for a quick perk me up snack.
Makhanas are especially beneficial for women because they are low in cholesterol, fat and sodium.
This makes them an ideal snack to satiate those in-between meal hunger pangs.
They are beneficial to those suffering from high blood pressure, heart diseases and obesity due to their high magnesium and low sodium content.
Makhanas are recommended for diabetics too due to their low glycemic index.
An anti-ageing enzyme in these seeds is said to help repair damaged proteins.
In addition, the presence of a natural flavonoid called kaempferol (also present in coffee), helps prevent inflammation and ageing.
- Sattu and dryfruit powders for the healthy instant power boosting drinks on the go.
Ground up lighty roasted elaichi, almonds, pistas, walnuts, cashews, saffron to make a dry powder which can replace your women's health drinks like horlicks.
You can also add herbs like ashwagandha while serving the mix.
Ashwagandha is an adaptogen and is highly recommended for elderly. It has anti-inflammatory, rejuvenating, and mind calming properties.
This is extremely fortifying when mixed with milk and had. It will promote wellbeing, boost your immunity and energy levels and will help you feel more calm and relaxed.
After all, clarity and energy is what you need to make tough decisions all day. Sattu is a super flour with a lot of benefits especially for women.
It is rich in iron, manganese, and magnesium, and low on sodium.
Sattu provides instant energy and also works as a cooling agent that further keeps the internal organs at ease.
It is great for your skin when you have it on empty stomach with warm water and an inch of rocksalt and a slice of lemon.
It promotes weight loss, keeps your fuller and fuller of energy for longer and is an effective tool in cleansing your colon, removing greasy food, from the walls of intestine and rejuvenating the entire digestive process.
It also controls flatulence, constipation, and acidity.
- Pre prep meals and take more time out for yourself.
We dont need to tell you this. Me time is very important for everyone, especially for moms.
You take care of everyone all the time, you need to get some time off every 3 hours in a day.
Start your day with an hour of exercise and meditation.
If you have to pre prep the meals or get your partner and kids or the househelp to work with you so that you have more free time, do not hesitate to ask.
You are allowed to relax, you must relax otherwise you will burn out more quickly.
Get kids to help you with household chores. This will ultimately be good for them when they grow up to manage their own lives.
How you take care of yourself sets an example of how others take care of you and respect your needs.
Do not compromise on your health.
Switch off from work and family for at least 15 mins every day and just keep that time for yourself, doing the thing you like the most so that you can relax.
It can be anything- painting, dancing, yoga, writing, anything that makes you happy,
You do you!
